We are excited to launch our annual Flexibility Survey in partnership with AGL!

February 5, 2018 by Kate Beattie Leave a Comment

Flexible working has been front and centre over the last year for many organisations in Australia and New Zealand.

We are delighted to see the narrative shift from focusing purely on providing more women with part-time and flexible work options, to looking at how we encourage more men to work flexibly too.

Why is this so important?

Very simply, if more men feel empowered and supported to take parental leave, to work flexibly or to take the role of primary care of children at home, more women will be free to pursue their careers – on their terms.

But it’s not just about childcare, there are many reasons why people want to work flexibly and why it is good for business.

“We understand that working flexibly means different things to different people,” said AGL CEO Andy Vesey, “Talented people come from all walks-of-life and so too do their commitments outside of work; they might be parents, have other caring responsibilities, they might study part-time, have important cultural events or be training for the next marathon. We know that if people feel they aren’t compromising on what they care about, they can be focused at work and full of energy.”

As such, this year’s survey on flexible working is focused on what YOU are looking for.  What flexibility you currently have, and what you would like in the future.  We are also keen to know what barriers are facing men and women when it comes to asking for flexible work.

Natalie Goldman, FlexCareers CEO said, “It’s vitally important that we continue to pulse check how we are doing.  Has the concept of flexible working been widely embraced, or are there industries or organisations that are still struggling to get it right?”

We hope that you will take a couple of minutes to tell us about your experiences, and share with us what flexible working means to you, so that FlexCareers can continue to support and lobby organisations across Australia and New Zealand to evolve, improve and create a brighter future for everyone.
