Merry Christmas – a review, reflection and some sneak peeks of what’s in store for 2018!

December 24, 2017 by Kate Beattie Leave a Comment

Happy Holidays!

It’s been an incredible year, underpinned by a massive shift in the narrative around gender diversity and flexible working in Australia and New Zealand, which we are proud to have helped influence.

This year FlexCareers has consulted to a wide variety of organisations to help them achieve workforce flexibility in a way that is authentic and sustainable. We’ve also worked with senior leadership teams across Australia and New Zealand to challenge perceptions and move gender diversity strategies beyond simply hiring more women.

In 2017, we have seen more and more men embrace flexible working – it is no longer the domain of the working mum (a term I am not a fan of – how often do you hear the term working dad?!). Families are now choosing for both parents to work flexibly, and we are seeing more people in non-caring roles negotiating flexible working options to achieve the lifestyle and workstyle that works for them.

It’s been an amazing year for our community too.  We LOVE hearing from you, whether it’s a short message on Facebook or an inspirational story about your life and career – but most of all, we love hearing from those of you who have found your dream job through FlexCareers! If you’d like to share your story on our blog, you can use this link.

FlexCareers welcomed more than 200 new employer partners this year, and we’ve had some amazing feedback from them on the quality of candidates sourced and hired from our community. We recently supported a large Return to Work program where 40% of candidates shortlisted for final interviews applied via FlexCareers – that’s an unbelievable result and shows what an amazing community of talented women we have built together!

Please remember to update your FlexCareers profile, upload your CV and, if you are interested in Return to Work programs, check the relevant box and join our new talent community specifically designed to support you, and ensure you are found by prospective employers!

This month we welcomed GPT and Essential Energy,, and we’ve already seen some wonderful examples of flexibility in action from both – check out the blogs below.

Over the holiday period and throughout January we also continue to take applications for Deloitte’s Return To Work, click the link to find out more and apply.  We also have ten new organisations joining FlexCareers after the Christmas break – we are SO excited to be able to bring you so many opportunities to kick off the New Year!

Christmas can be a chaotic time of year, but once the festivities are over, it’s a great time of year to reflect and review our priorities.  If you are ready to take your career to the next level, would like to return to work, or need support to build your confidence and resilience, please reach out to one of our FlexCoaches and book your FREE 30min chemistry session or join us for FREE online coaching in the Talented Flexible Workforce Group on Facebook – which is moving to Tuesday evenings in 2018.

Before we sign off for the year, I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you.  Together we have built an amazing community of over 50,000 talented women (and a growing number of men) who are helping and supporting one another to pursue a career on their terms.

From Joel, Marko, myself and the FlexCareers team, thank you for your wonderful support in 2017 – we wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy festive season and happy new year, and we can’t wait to connect with you again in 2018.
